Nas Thanked By Magic Johnson For Magic 2 Tribute

Nas has received lofty praise from basketball legend Magic Johnson after naming a track on his new album, Magic 2, after him. On Saturday (July 22), Magic took to Twitter where he dubbed Nasty Nas a “hell of a businessman,” before waxing poetic about what an honor it was to be recognized for his business acumen.

“On Nas’s new album Magic 2 he dedicated track 7 to me called Earvin Magic Johnson!” the Lakes icon wrote. “Thank you for the respect and honor of my business acumen. You’re a hell of a businessman in your own right!”

On the track titled “Earvin Magic Johnson,” the Queensbridge lyricist pays homage to the baller-turned-businessman’s success.

“On my Earvin Magic Johnson, I’m enterprising/ I keep it ghetto like the hood before they gentrified it/ I might burn this bitch down, Left Eye, Andre Rison,” he raps.

Meanwhile, that same day, Nas took to Twitter to reveal the divine inspiration behind his prolific musical output over the last few years.

“I’m happy to be around making new music because I love it,” he said. “Having the best year of my life. I caught the Holy Spirit and I’m grateful to be giving it all to the world. Magic 2.”

Released on Friday (July 21), Magic 2 is the fifth collaborative project between Nas and Hit-Boy since 2020. The first, King’s Disease, was released in August 2020 and secured Nas his first-ever Grammy win for Best Rap Album.

The dynamic duo returned a year later with King’s Disease II, which was followed by Magic just a few months later in December 2021. King’s Disease III was then released the following year in November 2022.

In June, God’s Son expressed his excitement about getting back into the studio, noting that he feels he’s in a “creative growth spurt” of sorts and still aims to make music that makes listeners feel something.

“I’m in one of these creative growth spurts,” he told Vanity Fair. “It’s something that I’m really excited about, and it surprises me – but I’m not too, too surprised because I was also waiting for the day that I felt like this again, and I knew it would come.”

Sexyy Red has fired back at her critics who believe she “emasculated” Black men during her Rolling Loud Miami performance — and needless to say, she’s not a happy woman. Conservative political strategist Joey Mannarino — known more for his regressive social takes than for any policy he’d advised on in recent times — took to Twitter on Saturday (July 22) to pass judgment on the rising rap star’s set at the festival.

Mannarino, who is a white man, purported to speak for Black men when he wrote: “Sexyy Red, the ‘artist’ behind Poundtown, just came out with two black men at her feet like dogs at Rolling Loud.
