Woman Charged in Lady Gaga Dognapping Scheme Now Suing Gaga for $500,000 Reward

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is being sued by a woman who was found guilty of crimes related to the kidnapping of two French bulldogs. The woman claims she was never given the $500,000 (an estimated R9million) prize promised. On February 26, 2021, less than 48 hours after burglars took her two French bulldogs and shot the man who walked the two dogs, Lady Gaga sent a message to her over 80 million Twitter followers.

“My beloved dogs Koji and Gustav were taken in Hollywood two nights ago. … I will pay $500 000 for their safe return. If you bought or found them unknowingly, the reward is the same,” she wrote.

About 80 minutes after the pop star’s tweet, Jennifer McBride took the dogs to the Los Angeles Police Department. She was later detained and charged with dognapping. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, she was found guilty of receiving stolen property on one count in December and received a two-year probationary period. McBride claims that she ought to be compensated for returning the pets.

She filed a lawsuit against Lady Gaga on Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, charging the musician—whose real name is Stefani Germanotta—with contract breach and fraud.

In order to get McBride to come forward and place herself on the radar of police enforcement, Germanotta, according to McBride, allegedly made the offer of a $500 000 prize in bad faith.

Koji, Gustav, and Asia, three French bulldogs owned by Lady Gaga, were being walked by Ryan Fischer in Los Angeles on February 24, 2021, when two guys allegedly drew up in a car and demanded the dogs at gunpoint. After a scuffle, one of the men shot Fischer, wounding him, and then they took two of the dogs, got back in the car, and drove off. Following the assault, a number of individuals—including McBride—were charged.

“This case is quite simple. Lady Gaga a reward offer … She desperately wanted her dogs returned and my client took action to fulfil Lady Gaga’s wish,” In a statement to The Washington Post, attorney KT Tran said.

“My client had absolutely no involvement in the theft of the dogs. She loves dogs and was glad to participate in their safe return. She is legally entitled to and deserves the reward,” The lawyer added.

When pressed to cite a social media post, interview, or comment where Germanotta stated that she was offering the incentive “no questions asked,” Tran remained silent.
