The Randburg Magistrate Court declared comedian and actor Tumi Stopnonsons, real name Tumelo Matila, a free man after his girlfriend laid charges of assault in August 2023. Mpho made his last appearance in court today accompanied by two bodyguards
The court said, there was no prospects of success and the complainant also filed the withdrawal statement, therefore there was no need to proceed with the case and all charges have been dropped.
Tumi was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and pointing an object resembling a firearm at his girlfriend, Thando Ngemane, and her friend ,Tsholofelo Kgosimotho, following an alleged verbal altercation. He spent three nights in custody after his arrest and was granted R2 000 bail.
In the first appearance, the court heard that Tumi threatened to kill both his girlfriend and friend during the altercation and pointed an object resembling a firearm at them. During his first court appearance, his girlfriend’s friend Tsholofelo opposed Tumi receiving bail but Thando, his girlfriend, did not.
However, it was granted on the second appearance, when the two complainants were absent from court. Tumi was served with a protection order, which the girlfriend’s friend applied for. Both complainants were again absent from court today. Magistrate Louise Estchell said there was no case. Tumi refused to comment when asked for comment and left the court in a hurry.
