The Weeknd Makes History With 7 RIAA Diamond Certifications

The Weeknd

The Weeknd has once again made history, now becoming the first Canadian artist to score a whopping seven Diamond certifications from the RIAA – as well as becoming the only third artist to do so overall. The feat was achieved the week of June 17 thanks to the songs “Save Your Tears” and “Die For You.” joining the list of his records that have achieved Diamond status. Only Post Malone and Rihanna are in the 7+ Diamond record club with him.

He also received a few other plaques in the process, as two of his 2023 hits, “Popular” with Madonna and Playboi Carti and “One of the Girls” with JENNIE and Lily-Rose Depp, went platinum. This made for the first-ever platinum record for Depp (who The Weeknd co-starred with in the since-canceled HBO series The Idol), as well as JENNIE.

And what’s more – as of June 2024, the superstar singer is the artist with the most monthly listeners on Spotify and has the most streamed song of all time on Spotify with “Blinding Lights.”

In other news, it appears that The Weeknd has a potential new collaboration in the works with Apple, though he didn’t give too many details as to what that would entail.

Taking to his Instagram Stories on June 1, the “I Can’t Feel My Face” singer posted a photo full of framed pictures of the Apple logo on the wall above a white couch, implying that he was at the company’s headquarters.

His caption only shared three emojis — the googly-eyed emoji, the musical notes emoji, and the film camera emoji — all of which suggested that he’d be recording and taping a new music performance.

However, that has not been confirmed. Late last month, The Weeknd shared another social media post that had fans speculating about the “end” of his career.

On May 24, the singer took to his Instagram Story where he quoted a fan page’s tweet about his live performance of his hit single “Save Your Tears” at the 2021 Billboard Awards. The TV hit saw him walking along a road while singing, as rows of cars came up behind him, parting ways right before they hit him.

“There was a lot of trust with those cars,” read the quote. “He didn’t seem nervous at all, which really weirded us out, because these cars were just barreling by him and he was calm, kept his composure, walked slowly and just didn’t look back. It was kind of amazing.”

The Instagram Story post included a static shot from the performance, as well as the statement, “The end is near.”
