Nhlanhla Lux shows off his multi-million Pimville, Soweto mansion

Nhlanhla Lux

Despite insisting he did not grow up wealthy, Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini – the radical political activist and businessman – has impressed South Africans with his multi-million Pimville, Soweto mansion.

The former Operation Dudula president made headlines amid claims the EFF bombed his home during the National Shutdown on Monday, 20 March. And while many social media users doubt his allegations, they are impressed with his sprawling township abode. In an interview with 702 last month, Nhlanhla Lux spoke about his childhood, which he claims was anything but privileged.

Lux attended a private school – St Davids’s Marist – thanks to his mother, who was a cleaner in several high-end retail stores in Sandton and Hyde Park.

He said: “My mom was smart enough to make a deal with the shop owners, who were white women….she said; ‘I’d like for my son to go to the same school as your kids. You don’t have to pay me. Just give me transport money”. He continued: “At St David’s, during the day, I am with absolutely rich kids, people whose lives are set and made, and at night, I take two taxis to go home, and I find myself back in Soweto every day of my life.

He also earned a scholarship to study in China. Lux added: “A lot of people think I had a privileged life, I didn’t. I had a fantastic mother who put me first. And that’s why I am who I am”.

Despite claiming to lead a humble life, tweeps were impressed by his Soweto mansion, which was splashed across the media amid Nhlanhla Lux’s allegations it was “bombed” by the EFF.

Twitter account Kasi Economy tweeted: “Nhlanhla Lux house is situated in Pimville, Soweto’s richest township. A standard house in Pimville costs around R1million. In Pimville, you will find: Maponya Mall, Konka, and a golf country club”.
