e.TV’s Imbewu is counting down the final episodes of the telenovela as it is set to come to its finale on Friday, 14 April 2023. As such, the open time slot has opened up room for a series to take over. As such, the channel has already confirmed that the new drama series Smoke & Mirrors will take over the time slot.
As reported at the time:
This April, e.tv brings forth yet another brand-new drama, Smoke & Mirrors, produced by The Final Chapter Production. The show takes over the 9 PM slot on the channel, replacing Imbewu.

Smoke & Mirrors is set in the landscape of a small mining town called Emnyameni. Here, we come to learn that the story lives up to its name- nothing and no one is true as they seem.
Introducing the character of Thandiswa, a hairdresser by day, an escort by night, and a girl on a mission to rid the town of “The Unholy Trinity”, the group of morally corrupt men who run Emnyameni.
In light of Monday, 17 April 2023 when the new drama series is set to premiere on the channel, e.TV has shared the official snippet trailer for the series.
A first look at e.TV’s Smoke & Mirrors
Ahead of the series premiere, e.TV shared the cast of Smoke & Mirrors, which includes incoming new talent in the lead role as actress Ayanda Bandla is set to play the protagonist of the series Thandiswa Mseleku who is a girl “on a mission to rid the town of Emnyameni of three evil men- Caesar, Jaxon, and Mthetho, known as “The Unholy Trinity”.”
This was later supported by the release of the official teaser of the series which showcased the main cast of the show. This was with the inclusion of Kabomo and Meshack Mavuso as two-thirds which make up the rest of the “Unholy Trinity.”
But arguably, the draw card of the series is the title antagonist who is none other than leading man Zolisa Xaluva as Caesar. A character that is described as, “the leader of the pack. He’s the alpha and a cut-throat businessman who doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty.”
The release of the social snippet trailer shares just how villainous Xaluva is set to be in his leading role as he attempts to buy a coal mine in order to use the land to bury the alleged many skeletons that he and the rest of his pose have made throughout their journey to being so notorious.
Explaining the intention of introducing the show as the channel has canned Imbewu, Head of Local Programming Helga Palmer was quoted as stating:
“e.tv focuses on introducing untold stories to the South African audience and promises entertainment like no other. The introduction of Smoke and Mirrors opens a world that hasn’t been explored before, the combination of this story and cast will simply blow our audience’s minds away.”
