Sello Maake kaNcube, the esteemed actor, has officially initiated divorce proceedings with his wife, Pearl Solo Mbewe, marking the end of their once-envisioned fairy tale marriage.
The couple, who exchanged vows in 2021, parted ways last year and are now on the path to legal separation, marking Maake kaNcube’s second failed marriage in a decade. His previous union with businesswoman Palesa Mboweni ended bitterly in court around three years ago.
Reports of the dissolution of Maake kaNcube and Mbewe’s marriage surfaced through undisclosed sources close to the couple, citing irreconcilable differences.
Allegedly, Maake kaNcube ejected Mbewe from their shared residence in Dube, Soweto, following a dispute regarding his alleged flirtatious behavior with other women. Mbewe sought refuge with her parents in Bramfischerville, Soweto, before relocating to her own property in Bedfordview, Ekurhuleni, which she acquired over a decade ago.
According to insiders, Mbewe (42) discovered Maake kaNcube (62) still maintaining communication with an old flame, Cynthia Hlahla, also known as Lacoste. Apparently, Maake kaNcube conveyed sentiments of longing to Hlahla, based in the US, professing his enduring affection and inquiring about her relationship status.
However, Hlahla rebuffed his advances, asserting that she perceived his expressions of love as insincere, particularly in light of his commitment to Mbewe. She urged Maake kaNcube to be forthright about his intentions, suggesting she assist him in relocating to the US if he desired, instead of entertaining false notions of a rekindled romance.
Upon learning of this exchange, a confrontation erupted between Mbewe and Maake kaNcube, resulting in her eviction from their home. Despite subsequent attempts by Maake kaNcube to reconcile, including the settlement of outstanding dowry payments, the couple failed to find common ground.
In January, Maake kaNcube engaged legal representation from Swanepoel van Zyl Attorneys to initiate divorce proceedings. An email from the firm’s representative, Anel de Lange, detailed the necessary steps, including a R25,000 deposit for legal services.
Mbewe declined to comment on the matter.
Maake kaNcube confirmed that he had contacted the lawyers to help him file for divorce but said he had not signed any papers.
“I have not even paid them yet,” he said.
