President Joe Biden vows to defeat Trump despite admitting to bad debate performance

0

Joe Biden, the president of the United States, stated on Friday that he planned to defeat his Republican presidential opponent Donald Trump in the upcoming November election.

He showed no indication that he would contemplate withdrawing from the race following a lacklustre debate performance that concerned his fellow Democrats, Reuters reported.

“I know I’m not a young man, to state the obvious,” Biden, 81, said at a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, one day after the head-to-head showdown with Trump, 78, which was widely viewed as a defeat for the Democrat president.

“I don’t walk as easy as I used to, I don’t speak as smoothly as I used to, I don’t debate as well as I used to,” he said, as the crowd chanted “four more years.”

“I would not be running again if I didn’t believe with all my heart and soul that I could do this job. The stakes are too high,” Biden said.

Biden’s verbal stumbles and occasionally rambling answers during the debate raised worries among voters about his ability to serve another four-year term and led some Democrats to ponder the possibility of replacing him as their candidate for the November 5 US election.

In a “all hands on deck” meeting on Friday, the campaign reassured staffers that Biden had no intentions of exiting the race, according to two people familiar with the meeting.

Though Trump put forward a series of falsehoods throughout the debate, the focus afterward was squarely on Biden, especially among Democrats.

But several of the party’s most senior figures, including former president Barack Obama, said they were sticking with Biden.

“Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and somebody who only cares about himself,” Obama wrote on X. The New York Times editorial board, which endorsed Biden in 2020, called on him to drop out of the race.

“The greatest public service Mr Biden can now perform is to announce that he will not continue to run for re-election,” the editorial said.

Meanwhile, questions about Trump’s fitness for office have also arisen over his conviction last month in New York for covering up a hush money payment to a porn star, his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his chaotic term in office. He is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, just days before his party convenes to formally nominate him.

Portia Modise gives a talk on the effects of drugs

0

Portia Modise has recently become the ambassador for Clinix, a healthcare group in South Africa. The former Banyana Banyana captain is known for her contributions to women’s football and her advocacy for health and wellness. Modise’s partnership with Clinix will focus on promoting healthcare awareness and encouraging healthy lifestyles within communities. She expressed excitement about the collaboration and looks forward to making a positive impact through this role.

The Clinix Health Group has announced TS Galaxy striker Bernard Parker, Banyana Banyana legend Portia Modise, and Olympic silver medalist Luvo Manyonga as its ambassadors in a campaign that seeks to educate and raise awareness about prevalent substance addiction.

Portia Modise

The campaign was launched at a media event at Clinix’s Solomon “Stix” Morewa Memorial Hospital in the south of Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Founded in 1992 by Dr Khamane Obed Peter Matseke, the black-owned hospital group runs eight healthcare facilities across South Africa. Statistics shockingly reveal that one in four pre-teens have experimented with psychoactive drugs and that a third of South Africans, who are 15 years and older, are current drinkers and almost 60% of those engage in binge drinking.”

Majola explained further: “As a people-centred brand, we would like this campaign to not only raise awareness about the adverse effects of substance and illicit drug use but to also drive a message of empathy that will encourage individuals struggling with substance use disorders and addiction to seek help and get support, which is what we offer at our various wellness centres across Gauteng.

Parker, Modise, and Manyongo will work closely with Clinix to drive the overarching message of fostering empathy and destigmatising addiction and substance use disorders. Modise is well-remembered for her highest achievement of becoming the first African player to score 100 goals in international football back in 2014.

India win T20 World Cup after thrilling battle with Proteas

0

India won the T20 World Cup title with a thrilling seven run victory over South Africa in a classic final at Kensington Oval on Saturday.

Virat Kohli’s 76 led India to a strong 176-7 but after Heinrich Klaasen blasted a superb 52 from 27 balls South Africa were closing in on victory only to be halted by some outstanding Indian bowling at the end.
South Africa ended on 169-8 with Hardik Pandya taking 3-20 for India to the delight of the huge Indian following at the stadium.Kohli had struggled in the tournament but he delivered his best innings at the perfect moment with his balanced batting.

It was just what was needed for India who had slipped to 34 for three after their captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat.

In what has been a low scoring tournament, the total looked to be a daunting one for South Africa but then Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31) set the Proteeas on their way before Klaasen turned the game in their direction in the 15th over, smashing Axar Patel for 24 including two fours and two sixes.

When Klaasen was finally removed, caught behind off Hardik Pandya, the Proteas needed just 26 off the last 23 balls.

Knowing they had to take the initiative, Rohit turned early for Jasprit Bumrah’s final over and he answered the skipper’s call perfectly, bowling Marco Jansen and conceding just two runs in the 18th over.

That meant South Africa needed 20 from the final two overs and Arshdeep Singh bowled a superb length to allow just four.

With 16 to win off the last over, Pandya bowled a full-toss at Miller who smashed it high straight down the ground but Suryakumar Yadav produced a breath-taking catch on the boundary, throwing the ball back into play before he crossed the ropes and then returning to complete the catch.

Kagiso Rabada came in and edged a four and Pandya showed some nerves with a wide but the seamer kept his cool to ensure silverware for India after they lost in last year’s 50 Over World Cup on home soil.

SOUTH AFRICA: Quinton de Kock (wkt), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (captain), Tristan Stubbs, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi.

INDIA: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wkt), Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.

Shaq Apologizes To Drake For Sharing BBL DRIZZY Meme

0

Shaquille’ O’Neal recently shared a Drake meme on his social media profile, and he has now made it clear that he wasn’t making fun of the rapper. During an episode of The Big Podcast With Shaq that went live on Friday (June 28), the NBA legend took a moment to set the record clear regarding something he posted on his Instagram Stories earlier this week.

Shaq

Soundtracked by a rendition of the “BBL Drizzy” jab popularized by Metro Boomin, the image featured the retired athlete holding a woman wearing a bikini — her face, however, had been edited and swapped with that of the 6 God.

“Let me apologize right quick,” the 52-year-old began. “The mistake I made was I should’ve said ‘Who did this?’ […] Listen, Drake has a great sense of humor, so I thought it was funny that they did it.

“Like I saw ‘Shaq’s Trolling’ — no, I’m not trolling. I didn’t Photoshop it; somebody Photoshopped […] I thought it was funny and, hopefully, [Drake] thought it was funny too. But once it went viral, I definitely took it down.”

Listen to the Lakers icon discuss the misunderstanding at the 32:47 mark below:

Drake’s ongoing feud with Kendrick Lamar has put a number of people’s loyalty to the test, and the Canadian superstar seemingly shaded those who’ve left his side in a recent social-media post.

Last week, K.Dot hosted and performed to a sold-out crowd at his “Pop Up” Juneteenth show in Inglewood, California. During said event, the Compton native played a number of his diss tracks aimed at Drizzy, such as “euphoria” and “6:16 in LA.”

The set climaxed with him performing “Not Like Us” five times in a row as the crowd sang along to it word for word. Among the thousands turning up in the crowd was basketball star LeBron James, who has been a close friend and supporter of the Toronto native since the latter broke into the music industry.

Shaq

Hence, people online are now suspecting that the “Hotline Bling” hitmaker was throwing shade at the 20-time All-Star when he took to his Instagram Stories soon after the gig, posting a mirror selfie in which he could be seen wearing what appears to be a Cleveland Guardians jersey with the words “Summer League” stamped over the image.

This could’ve potentially been a reference to LeBron’s turbulent relationship with the city of Cleveland, where he played for a total of 11 seasons and even won a championship.

His initial stint with the Cavaliers, however, was not successful, as he left after his first seven seasons to join the Miami Heat back in 2010, which is still considered one of the most controversial moves in sports history. He returned for his final four years in the city in 2014 — a tenure that included a championship in the 2015-16 season.

Shaq

With the official 2023–24 NBA season having wrapped up earlier that week, the Summer League is set to commence next month. Moving forward, it appears that Drake has rethought his allegiances.

Megan Thee Stallion‘s album release party was filled with drama when a fight went down between her security and a reality star. TMZ obtained footage from the Friday (June 28) event that showed Bad Boys: Los Angeles cast member and celebrity hairstylist Jonathan Wright landing a slap on one of Meg’s protectors before the brawl was stopped.

Megan Thee Stallion

Despite the violence, Wright and the “BOA” rapper seemed to make amends.

He took to Instagram after the event and shared a video of him and Meg embracing. He captioned the post: “Y’all 2 BEST Freeenns has Reunited [winking face emoji, multiple heart eyes emoji].”

The Houston Hottie commented on the post: “Lmaooo dawg hour one of us reunited you were tearing shit up [crying laughter emoji].” Check out the post of their interaction below and footage of the fight here.

The new album from Megan Thee Stallion, Megan, is laced with star-studded features, but perhaps most notable is a verse from the late Pimp C on her UGK and Juicy J collab, “Paper Together.”

The Juicy and Go Grizzly-produced track fittingly finds Pimp referencing a stable as he effortlessly floats over the beat.

“A young, yellow bitch’ll rip your stable/ You gotta keep the bitch on a long cable/ I used to cut cheese up on the table/ But now I sell dope on a record label,” he raps.

Megan Thee Stallion

Upon announcing the tracklist earlier this month, Meg said of securing the posthumous verse: “Likeeee I got Pimp anddd Bunnn on a song stop playing w(ith) me.”

In the comments, Bun B added, “They ain’t ready!”

The verse was all the more special for the “HISS” rapper because it brings to fruition an interaction from a few years back.

Megan Thee Stallion

Upon Megan Thee Stallion signing to Roc Nation back in 2019, Pimp C’s widow Chinara Butler revealed in her congratulatory post that she had some unreleased verses from her late husband on reserve for her fellow Houston native.

“And I’m holding on to a couple of Unreleased verses of #PimpC just for you!!!! Get’em #TinaSnow #HotGirlOfTheYear!!!! #Yessssss #texasgirls #TrillQueenTalk #megantheestallion #LongLiveThePimp,” she wrote.

Meg has expressed her love for Pimp C throughout her career.

Megan Thee Stallion

“I would get in the car and my mama would be playing Pimp C. I would get in the car every day after school and be like, ‘Mama, put on that Pimp,’” she once revealed in an interview with Complex.

“So I took it into being grown now, just still bumping him. He just made me feel so cool as a kid. I didn’t even understand what he was saying, but I knew it just felt good. I wish he was alive because I wish I could have met him.”

Set to go live on July 2, the song will be further enhanced by a music video directed by Cole Bennett three days later.

“Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider, but see, me, it was a goat,” the youngest of the three can be heard rapping over the promo, referring to Sam Raimi’s Spiderman trilogy (2002–07).

In the teaser, Em can be seen standing next to his partners in crime as he decapitates a human-shaped chalk outline. Whereas all three of them have jumpsuits on, the D12 boss stands out as he is also wearing a Jason Voorhees-style hockey mask reminiscent of his younger days.

Last month, Eminem kickstarted the rollout of his twelfth studio album by releasing an obituary for his fictional alter ego, Slim Shady.

Eminem

Published in the Detroit Free Press back in mid-May, the piece was centered on the forthcoming The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe De Grâce).

Accompanied by a picture of the 8 Mile star wearing the mask seen above, the article stated “Fans ‘Will Never Forget’ [The] Controversial Rapper” in the subheading.

The body read: “A product of Detroit who began his career there as a rogue splinter in the flourishing underground rap scene of the mid to late 1990s, Shady first became a household name in 1999 with the debut of his playfully deranged single ‘My Name Is,’ which — along with its uniquely eye-catching video — exposed the young artist and his lyrics to a wider audience.

Eminem

“Ultimately, the very things that seemed to be the tools he used became calling cards that defined an existence that could only come to a sudden and horrific end. His complex and tortured existence has come to a close, and the legacy he leaves behind is no closer to resolution than how this character departed this world. May he truly find the peace in an afterlife that he could not find on Earth.”

Kendrick Lamar may have been deemed by many to have defeated Drake in their recent feud, but it wasn’t enough for him to surpass the 6 God — in the eyes of Lil Wayne, at least. In a new interview, the New Orleans native was asked who is Top 5 rappers of all time are, and he didn’t hesitate to put Drizzy up there with some notable Hip Hop heavyweights.

Lil Wayne

“My Top 5 rappers of all time are JAY-Z, Missy Elliott, Eminem, um… The Notorious B.I.G. — oh, and this is no specific order right here — and Drizzy.”

Weezy has previously named the likes of Goodie Mob and UGK in his list of favorite rap acts.

Lil Wayne has long been a vocal supporter of Drake since signing him to his Young Money imprint in 2009, kickstarting one of the most successful and prolific runs of any rapper.

Reflecting on discovering the “Hotline Bling” hitmaker during an appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast in 2022, he said: “I [saw] potential. When Drake’s music was brought to me from their homie Jas [Prince], it was about rap. I was like, ‘This dude sounds different.’

“What I loved about him, was he was sounding just as dope as we were. When I say we, I’m talking about the streets and where we came from.

Lil Wayne

“I told him, ‘You could make working in a cubicle — you know how to make that sound like the dopest thing in the world. Don’t stop.’ “Then one day I heard, ‘[singing voice].’ Like, ‘What the fuck was that?’ I remember asking Mack [Maine], Who is that on the hook?’ He’s like, ‘That’s him too!’”

Weezy has also admitted that he often rewrites his verses when working with Drake due to the quality of the Canadian’s songwriting.

“Everything Drake sends back, I always have to go back and re-record,” he said. “It’s always too hot. It’s always because he says something at the end that makes me be like, ‘Oh, I could make more of the song and capitalize on what he just said.’ I have changed my verse a billion times because of Drake and that’s always the person.”

Lil Wayne

Despite overlooking Kendrick Lamar in his Top 5 rappers list, Wayne has praised the Pulitzer Prize winner in the past.

After K. Dot called Wayne the “greatest” and cited him as a huge influence in a 2016 interview, the “A Milli” hitmaker returned the favor by tweeting: “Kendrick Lamar a real one #Respek.”
