Mzansi Has Mixed Reactions Over Emtee’s Wife Dropping Assault Case Against Him

Assault charges against rapper Mthembeni Ndevu- better known as Emtee, have reportedly been dropped by his wife, Nicole Chinsamy.

The rapper handed himself over to the police on March 8, 2023, and was charged with assault. According to Nicole, Emtee allegedly assaulted her on Valentine’s Day while she was 7 months pregnant.

“Show them what you did to me, how you beat me up on Valentine’s Day here’s the proof,” said a disgruntled Nicole during a heated argument with the rapper.

According to Sunday World, Emtee is a free man as he has been cleared of assault charges against Nicole.

The award-winning rapper appeared at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 2 May. According to a statement shared by the publication, Nicole said she withdrew the gender-based violence (GBV) case against him.

According to Nicole, she forgives the Manado hitmaker in the interest of their two children, Avery and Logan, as well as their unborn child.

“On 03/03/2023, I opened a common assault case under domestic violence against my husband Mthembeni Ndebele. He was arrested on 08/03/2023. Therefore, I hereby wish to withdraw the charges against Mthembeni Ndevu. I forgave him for the sake of my kids,” reads the statement.

She added, “I was happy and satisfied with the investigation and the court proceedings up to this far.”

The rapper’s lawyer, Dumisani Motsamai, said although they are happy about the withdrawal, they have mixed emotions because Emtee has been deprived of proving his innocence in court.

“There will always be this cloud hanging over his head that he is a woman basher regardless of the charges being withdrawn. This is the image he will forever carry in the court of public opinion. The withdrawal of the charges by the complainant is therefore met with mixed emotions by the accused,” his lawyer wrote in a statement to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

Additionally, the rapper’s team rejected anger management classes proposed by the NPA.

“A diversion program, whilst not necessarily a form of punishment, is nevertheless a form of a corrective measure aimed at rehabilitating a past offender.

“It is an intervention that is typically offered as an alternative sentence to accused people whom the court believes ought to be afforded an opportunity to be corrected and thereafter be reintegrated back to society.

“For reasons already set out extensively above, the accused in this instance does not tick the box,” Motsamai wrote.

According to Nota, Makhadzi isn’t beautiful enough to have an attitude and won’t last long in the music industry if she continues to have one.

His post did not sit well with the singer’s fans who wasted no time telling him where to get off. As usual, Nota Baloyi isn’t mincing his words on Twitter.

The controversial entertainment manager has landed in hot water more than once over his tweets but continues to share scathing comments about any and everything.

His latest tweets have been directed at Ghanama hitmaker Makhadzi who recently opened up about her relationship with record company Open Mic. Taking to Twitter she wrote that she has been a slave for the company for the last three years.

Her comments appears to have upset Nota who says that Makhadzi isn’t pretty enough for her attitude. According to him, severing ties with her record label will end in her demise.

“Makhadzi isn’t pretty enough for her attitude… She won’t be missed. Her new lifestyle is going to be impossible to maintain & her music will be forgotten. Nobody knows where Nomcebo ended up & I’m willing to bet my life none of this would’ve happen if they were signed by whites!” he wrote.

Nota’s tweet did not sit well with Makhadzi’s fans who quickly told him off.

“Why are disrespecting makhadzi like this, comparing her with abo Nomcebo. Makhadzi was not made by anyone. She works her way up. No radio station, TV, media house or company that made makhadzi. Makhadzi will raise above in the entertainment, she came very far,” wrote one tweep while another said: Makhadzi don’t need record labels, but record labels need Makhadzi, let that sink in.

Since his death almost three months ago, the grave of AKA – real name Kiernan Forbes – has become a shrine for his fans, known as the Megacy. But despite the influx of visitors to his final resting place at Heroes Acre in West Park Cemetry, the rapper’s parents have shared their approval.

AKA was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Durban in February. The 35-year-old hitmaker left behind his only child, daughter Kairo Forbes. Speaking to You Magazine, Lynn and Tony Forbes revealed that AKA’s fans were welcome to visit his grave.

Mom Lynn said: “I realised that when you have a son like Kiernan, you need to be willing to share him with the world. I see the Megacy as my children, and I appreciate the love and support”. Dad Tony, the acts of kindness from AKA’s fans are heartwarming. He added: “So many people have shared the impact that Kiernan and his music had on their lives. It’s made us all so proud.

According to the publication, the hitmaker’s parents also hope to honour his memory by giving back to the Megacy by helping up-and-coming artists.

Tony added: “I’d like to help develop other artists to become as good as AKA, if not better. As a family, we have the resources to put our energy behind projects that can produce more artists.  Meanwhile, AKA’s parents took his four Metro FM awards to his grave, a day after the music ceremony.

The late rapper scooped four Metro FM Awards in the following categories. AKA’s posthumous album Mass Country was released just two weeks after his gruesome murder. According to many friends and fans, the hitmaker “knew” it would be his last musical offering.

After appearing at the awards ceremony, the star’s parents and their granddaughter made a trip to his final resting place at the West Park Cemetry in Johannesburg. The rapper is buried among music royalty like Mandoza and Robbie Malinga in the Heroes Acre.

Amapiano music producer DJ Maphorisa has been arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo. This is according to City Press, which has cited a statement made by Phongolo in her reporting of the incident to the authorities. Phongolo made her statement at the Sandton Police Station.

The former Generations: The Legacy actress claims DJ Maphorisa, whose real name is Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, attacked her inside her Sandton apartment. Phongolo, who also works as a club DJ, alleges that the fight started she confronted her boyfriend about their heated argument from the night before.

“On Sunday 2023/5/7 at about 12pm, I was at my place of residence with my boyfriend, Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, better known as DJ Maphorisa. I confronted him so that we can talk about our argument, which happened the previous night during his gig,” said Phongolo in the statement.

Phongolo claims the DJ became aggressive and slapped her in the face. He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck,” she said.

At some point during their fight, Thuli Phongolo claims her boyfriend took her phone, but later gave it back. She then called her manager, who took her to the police station, where she opened a domestic abuse case against him.

DJ Maphorisa is expected to make an appearance in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of assault. It isn’t clear what started the initial fight, but City Press has cited sources who say the couple have been at loggerheads lately.

“They had a fight in early December after accusations of infidelity. They had another fight last month but never got to the police station,” revealed the source.
