Celebrated musician and producer Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala recently appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court for assault. In 2022, Twala was arrested and charged for “pointing something that resembles a firearm” and common assault. Against his arrest, he was released on R2 000 bail. The case has had 17 court sittings up to today.
Court papers have it that Twala allegedly assaulted City Power employees after reportedly mistaking them for thieves in Bloubosrand. Upon his arrest, Gauteng police confiscated two toy guns.

In one of the court sitting, Mjonondwane said, “The alleged incident took place in Bloubosrand on May 1 2022, when two City Power technicians attended to a call about a power outage in the area.”

King Monada and family attacked at home

0

Award-winning artist King Monada‘s family was attacked after the musician failed to pitch at a paid gig at a lodge in Limpopo on Saturday. Monada, whose real name is Khutso Kgatle, has since apologised for his no-show.

It’s alleged that out of frustration, the owner of the lodge Peter Madupa of Madupa Lodge went to Monada’s double storey house, which he shares with his two wives and kids at the Mokgolobotho village outside Tzaneen, with a truck full of passengers and started throwing stones at the house. In a statement released by the Moreki hitmaker, he said that he was tired to drive to the venue on Saturday.

King Monada

Monada said that the people Madupa brought to his house seemed heavily intoxicated. “They violated the freedom of security and maliciously damaged the property of the family,” he said. He also apologised for not making it to the event citing fatigue. “We sincerely apologise to our fans and anyone concerned for not making it to the event as scheduled. We had many gigs to attend at various places and due to the distance and time constraint we were not able to make it,” he said

It’s alleged that Monada was paid for the gig that was initially scheduled for 31 December. When Monada did not pitch, an arrangement for him to perform at the lodge on Saturday was made but again he failed to pitch. The singer has now threatened to take legal action against Madupa. “We do not appreciate the manner in which the issue was handled by Mr Peter Madupa of Madupa Lodge, whom we held in high regard. This conduct is completely unacceptable and we consider taking legal action to protect the rights of King Monada and his family and to deter anyone from interfering with their rights,” the statement said. King Monada further urged fans not to be distracted by any negativity that may be caused by this.

King Monada

We remain committed to provide entertainment services to our fans,” he said. The Idibala hitmaker is not a first-time offender, last week, ZiMoja reported that he refused to pay back R60 000 paid to him to perform at the Sasha Lifestyle establishment in Thembisa in December. Again in December, he was a no-show at another paid event at the Limpopo Legends Awards (Lila) in Polokwane. The organisers have also threatened legal action against Monada.

Here in South Africa, “black tax” is a norm. In most families, the hardworking and successful are stuck with the difficult task of making sure everyone else is taken care of. While looking after your family is wonderful, sometimes the expectations can be crippling. Local musician and businessman, Sbusiso Leope — known as DJ Sbu — has however said that helping out shouldn’t be looked at as black tax.

DJ Sbu

According to him, going back and helping those who sacrificed time and money to raise you, cannot be seen as a burden. Sometimes being financial stable and successful isn’t as great as it seems — especially when those closest to you start expecting more from you than you can give.

Here in South Africa, most successful people are familiar with the term black tax which refers to an obligation or a deeply ingrained sense of family responsibility.

DJ Sbu

Many have taken to social media to share just how hard it is to give up their comfortability to provide for the family. According to DJ Sbu, these people should not be complaining.

In a new video, the businessman explained how turning your back on your roots and “the village that raised you” isn’t right.
