SABC Cancels 7de Laan after 23 years Of Production

7de Laan has been canceled by SABC after 23 years of airing. SABC 2 and Danie Odendaal Productions announced in a press statement. The soapie debuted on SABC2 on April 4, 2000, and it will not be recommissioned for another season when season 24 comes to an end in December 2023.

7de Laan evolved over the years and bagged various awards, including the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) in the categories of Best Soapie and having been voted the Most Popular Soapie.

Some of the loved characters include Oubaas, Hilda, Charmaine, Aggie, Emma and the Meintjies family. On Monday, a statement was released, confirming the end of the show.

“Dear valued viewers and fans, With a heavy heart, we bring you the sad news of the SABC’s decision to conclude the beloved soapie, 7de Laan, after Season 24. Over the years, 7de Laan has touched the lives of millions of South Africans, becoming an integral part of countless households.

We deeply understand and appreciate the profound emotional connection and unwavering loyalty that you, our viewers, have developed towards the show, its endearing characters, and its enthralling storylines.”

It has been an immense honor for the cast and crew to be welcomed into your homes for the past 23 years. We would like to inform you that the final episode of 7de Laan will be broadcast on 26th December 2023.

As we approach this bittersweet conclusion, we encourage you to join us in cherishing the remaining episodes and relishing the memorable moments that have made this show such a cherished part of South African television. Your passion and enthusiasm have made this incredible journey possible, and we are eternally grateful for each and every one of you.”
