Pearl Thusi comes for President Cyril Ramaphosa and his leadership

South African-born media personality Pearl Thusi has weighed in on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s leadership a day before the National Shutdown taking place on Monday, 20 March. In a series of tweets on Sunday, the Queen Sono star slammed the president for load shedding and youth unemployment. Our president doesn’t seem to care about anything… how effective do you think the national shutdown will be?” Pearl Thusi wrote.

In another tweet she wrote: “You know- Cyril Ramaphosa doesn’t care about the people – more especially the youth of South Africa. He’s literally led this country into the darkness. With the port plunging into an abyss of unemployment and hopelessness. Some children are even learning in the darkness.

When a Twitter user asked Pearl Thusi why she’s putting the blame on Cyril Ramaphosa and not the African National Congress (ANC) because it is the ruling party, she said: “Sending soldiers on the youth? And just before the shut down there’s suddenly electricity undisturbed? Please. Pearl Thusi’s tweets were motivated by the ANC’s decisions ahead of the National Shutdown organised by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) protesting the energy crisis and demanding that Ramaphosa steps down.

At the weekend, and after almost a year of blackouts, South Africans saw some light at the end of the Eskom tunnel when the utility said it would reduce load-shedding.

This, according to Eskom, was due to the improved performance of some of its coal-fired power stations. However, many South African on social media believed it was due to the shutdown. In addition, Ramaphosa deployed thousands of soldiers and police to be on high alert across the countering and ahead of the shutdown.
