One of the leading entertainment commentators in the country is arguably Phil Kgopolo Mphela. Over his decade-long and counting career he has managed to carve out a niche market as an entertainment commentator predominantly using Twitter as his main means of communicating the latest television, radio, and publishing news.
However, it seems that in light of his popularity on the blue app, he has also opened himself up for trolling from other Twitter profiles looking to get in on his lucrative business model. As such, Mphela found himself needing to fight off trolls recently following his polarising tweet.
“Phil Mphela will not tweet for R150” A few days ago, Mphela found himself in hot water with tweeps when he took to his timeline to address how Musa Mseleku and the entire Mseleku clan have allegedly cornered the Mzansi Magic market.
Specifically, this was in light of the Mseleku clan receiving yet another spin-off from their successful Uthando Nesthembu reality show. Only this one would focus on the second generation of the Mseleku family.
The preferential treatment the Mselekus are being showered with is fast becoming suspiciously untoward.
What is it about Musa and his family that warrants the commission of so many shows related to or featuring someone from the family?
What’s that unique entertainment value?

While Mphela took his “L” at the time, it seems that tweeps did not forget. As such, when he attempted to add his commentary on why e.TV was not allegedly pushing its recent new addition to its weekday late-night programming Smoke & Mirrors as much as it was the likes of Isitha and Nikiwe.
Mara why is @etv not promoting #SmokeAndMirrors enough.
The show is good. It’s one of their best properties right now.
It can be very big.
And their numbers aren’t that bad either. They can be better if the channel put in more effort to push the show. pic.twitter.com/QQJkQnFLVW

Tweeps were quick to let him have it suggesting that he did not know what he was talking about as the telenovela managed to dominate trends despite his unfounded sentiments.
However, as Mphela came across as defensive, Promotional Twitter made sure they breathed down his neck. A fact which seemingly resulted in him needing to close his comments to only allow for his followers to comment on his posts.
This is why re le roga.
You couldn’t reply without being a … know what nevermind.
Trending on Twitter is not the only promotion. 1000 tweets from 50 people can make you trend, you dimwit!
Wa mphaphela, you think I’m on here chasing R150 promos. https://t.co/aOvAOhqpyp

You don’t know anything about me.
People work because I recommended them.
I plug influencers in my space all the time.
Don’t just assume and project your evil on me. https://t.co/32ividjoac

This allowed him to share in his most recent tweets, the casting shake-up on SABC 1’s flagship and most-watched soapie Uzalo. This comes as the soapie has confirmed the arrival of The Wife’s Lindo Mojalo and Sibusisiwe Jili as newly added cast members of the hit isiZulu soapie.
