Stoan Seate is now a DJ

Bongo Maffin member, poet, and rapper Stoan, real name Serai Tshepo Seate has ventured into DJing. The 48-year-old has had several gigs that he has secured, and his booking list continues to rise. This year, Afro-pop group, Bongo Maffin has been together for 28 years.

But let’s be honest, they have not really been together. The last time the group released a project was in New Construction in 2005. In 2018, they reunited after 12 years at One Source Live, an all-day festival, and they had several other bookings in 2019.

Individually, the artists have been living their lives. On 11 May, Thandiswa hosted the launch of her highly anticipated album Sankofa in Carnival City. Speedy has been hosting Ampiano parties in the US and Jah Seed has been travelling the continent hosting Reggae music shows

. Stoan has most recently ventured into DJing. The dad of four is regularly booked at Randburg nightclub, Amigos where he plays a variety of sounds from old school Kwaito, House, Hip-Hop, and Amapiano. “The reception to his music has been incredible. He also brings an amazing crowd who love some of the throwbacks,” says the club management. “He respects his craft, and people always talk about age, but music has no age. Stoan is a good DJ and we hope to see him play more at the big festival.

The multi-talented musician who dabbles in Kwaito, Hip-Hop, and singing. A friend says since Bongo Maffin might never make a full return. “Venturing into DJing is not a bad idea. The group will never fully return and make music like they used to, let’s be honest,” he says. “Thandiswa has successfully built her own brand outside of the group and she was the bond that glued them all together.
