Moonchild Shows Love And Support To Makhadzi

Moonchild Sanelly has expressed support for the MaGear hitmaker. As Makhadzi’s legal woes continue with her estranged record label Open Mic Productions.

In a tweet, Moonchild rallied behind Makhadzi, who is going through a messy music divorce with Open Mic Productions. Moonchild showed Makhadzi love and reminded her that she is the money, not the label.

She alleged that they exploited her in Mzansi but she started from scratch and bought a crib.

“Sending my love to @MakhadziSA. You’ve got this boo. They cleaned out my millions in SA & I just bought a house having started from scratch again. Ur, the money!!! Always remember that!!! You’ll be ok baby. It’s gonna be a chapter in your best-selling book of life let them laugh,” she wrote.

Makhadzi has been trending since last week after revealing she parted ways with Open Mic Productions. In a lengthy statement, the singer said she did not renew her contract with the label. This was so she could focus on her company Makhadzi Entertainment and her other business endeavors.

“The relationship between myself and Open Mic Productions was like a match made in heaven as it elevated both of us to become household names in the South African Music Industry,” read a media statement from Makhadzi.
“I traveled the world which was made possible by my relationship with Open Mic Production. I performed in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Nigeria, Senegal and SADC countries, and many other countries across the globe.

“I also won awards such as ‘Ubuntu Arts and Culture Diplomacy Award’, ‘Mzansi Viewers Choice Award’, Basadi Music Award’, ‘AFIMA’, ‘South African Music Award (SAMA)’ and ‘Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards’ to name a few,” she said.

In a twist of events, Open Mic revealed that Makhadzi is still signed to them and her contract was auto-renewable after 3 years. According to Sunday World, Open Mic spokesperson Nkateko Maluleke refuted claims that their contract with the internationally acclaimed musician had ended.

“We are sitting with a valid contract, so we won’t be issuing a similar statement. She’s still on contract with Open Mic,” said Maluleke.

“It [the contract] was an auto-renewal, so people get excited and sensationalize, that is why I have taken up a position not to engage publicly but rather stick to what we have on record.

“An auto-renewable contract means when the expiry time comes, it automatically renews until the record label decides not to renew. It renews with a similar period as the initial contract and she has a letter confirming the renewal.”

In an interview with Somizi at the Metro FM Awards, Makhadzi said she wanted her money from the music company. According to alleged leaked records the record label has paid Makhadzi over R8.2 million between May 2021 and May 2023.
