South African social media users are tearing media personality Somizi Mhlongo a new one after he allegedly faked a Whatsapp message between him and late playwright and actor Mbongeni Ngema. The Idols SA judge headed online to pay tribute to Ngema who died in a car accident on Wednesday this week. He shared a screenshot of a message which he claimed Ngema had sent to him.
Hilariously, Mohale Motaung — the ex husband of Somizi — headed online shortly after the story unravelled and threw what many believe to be shade at the whole situation. One of the many who headed online to pay tribute to Mbongeni Ngema is Sarafina actor Somizi Mhlongo.
Taking to his Instagram early today, the TV and radio presenter shared what he claimed to be a screenshot of a heartwarming message from Ngema before his passing. It didn’t take long for X users to spot that the message only had one tick — an indication that the message was sent by Somizi and not from Ngema. Why is Somizi sending himself WhatsApp texts and pretending they are from Mbongeni Ngema,” an X user wrote.
It didn’t take long for Somizi to notice that he had been caught out and soon deleted the post from his Instagram. As expected, social media users have not stopped trolling him over the situation. Some even called on him to apologise to the Ngema family. His ex husband Mohale Motaung hilariously joined in and shared what many are now taking as a jab at Somizi.
Taking to X, he shared a laughing meme with no caption. Take a look below:
