The initial tremor occurred at 5:08 p.m. local time, with the epicenter located 26.8 kilometers south-southwest of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 10 kilometers. This earthquake was felt across various regions, including Taipei and New Taipei City.
Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration reported that following the 5.5 magnitude quake, there were subsequent tremors, including a 5.3 magnitude quake and multiple 4.9 magnitude aftershocks. These events caused level 4 intensity shaking in Hualien and Nantou counties (Taiwan News). Despite the intensity of these quakes, no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage were recorded.
