A few months ago, the broadcaster announced being diagnosed with cancer and he further shared an update on his health. Derek left the screen after 35 years to focus on his health.
On Tuesday, it was announced that he died in the hospital. Friends and lovers of the legend have poured out tribute on various platforms.
“One of the kindest, most generous professionals to ever do it. The room disappeared when he spoke to you. Even as a colleague, he made me feel like I was Mother Theresa. Condolences to Belinda and his children, Tyrone and Kirstin,” broadcaster Bongani Bingwa wrote.
