The name of the late actor Mpho Sebeng has been removed from the KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Film and Television Awards. Sebeng tragically passed away in a car accident last month while traveling from Rustenburg in the North West to Johannesburg. The decision to remove his name from the awards list reflects the profound impact of his sudden and untimely death on the industry and those who knew him.
The Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards judging panel said in a statement that they had made a “mistake” by nominating Mpho when he is not from KZN. “The judging panel or auditor regrets to announce that there was an oversight in the category of Best Actor for Film or Television.
It has been brought to our attention that one of the nominees, Mpho Sebeng was not a resident in KwaZulu-Natal,” The statement said that it is for this reason that his name has been removed from the top four nominees. “While this oversight is regrettable, there is no material difference to the list of nominees in this category as there were already four actors nominated. There will now be only three nominees,” he said.
