John Kani knighted with the Order of the British Empire

The announcement, made by the British High Commissioner in Pretoria, Antony Phillipson, reverberated through the cultural landscape. Sir John Kani, known for his powerful performances that transcend borders, expressed his deep gratitude for the international recognition. “I am deeply moved by this honour,” he shared, reflecting on a career that has captivated audiences worldwide.

From his roots in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, to the cinematic throne as King T’Chaka in ‘Black Panther,’ Kani’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Sport, Arts, and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa extended his congratulations. He emphasized Kani’s role in shaping South Africa’s identity.
