Jack Harlow has said that Drake’s Scorpion will definitely go down in history as a “classic,” and that listening to Drizzy’s catalog has now become a “nostalgic” affair for him.
Harlow sat down with Rap Radar to speak about the state of rap music and said he believes the genre was in a transformative period.
He added that today’s current G.O.A.T. contenders like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole, now sound almost “nostalgic” because it harkens back to a time in Hip Hop when “things were a little better.”
“What people want is changing, what the youth wants is changing,” Harlow said at the 48-minute mark, “and it’s almost like Drake, Kendrick, and Cole their voices are damn near nostalgic at this point. We know this is good ’cause this is from the days when things were a little better.”
He continued: “You hear Drake’s voice come on in the club and it almost reminds you of 2012, which was a great time. It reminds you of 2016, which was a great time.
It’s almost like the history of the big three continues to reign on because what they’ve already accomplished is like…
Well, we know we’re getting some good shit from them, and it’s why you see people go back and instead of banging new shit they’re listening to Forest Hills Drive, or they’re listening to Late Registration.
“It’s almost as if we’re living in a time where people feel like this era isn’t special enough to stamp anything as timeless or classic as if the time of classic shit. It already happened.”
While Harlow admitted that he wasn’t sure how to articulate his thoughts about the state of rap quite yet, he interjected that Drake’s 2018 double-disc project will likely meet the standard of a “classic” down the line.
“I guess what I’m saying is, I think Scorpion is gonna be a classic,” Harlow declared. “I think these albums as time passes, it’s just how it is.”
This isn’t the first time the Jackman rapper has praised Drizzy’s Scorpion. Back in 2019, Harlow sat down for an interview with Hot 97 and said the project was his favorite out of Drake’s entire catalog.
Drake has also stood by Scorpion, despite fans continuing to debate whether it could be the 6 God’s least impressive work.
Following negative comments made about the album on the Shots Taken Podcast back in April, Drake took to Instagram to list a few of the slappers off the 25-track project.
“Gods Plan, In My Feelings, Nice For What, Nonstop, Jaded, Is There More, Sandra’s Rose, That’s How You, Feel, Emotionless…… slappppps on [Scorpio emoji],” he wrote.
