Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) released a statement in reaction to Thabo Bester’s arrest in Tanzania.
The convicted rapist and murderer was reportedly rearrested on Friday night after escaping the prison in 2022.
“The apprehension of Bester in Tanzania confirms the level of deceit and incompetence of the Correctional Services of South Africa and their Israeli-linked private security company partner which ran the prison G4S. Bester’s escape is a combination of gross corruption and collusion of Senior Correctional Service Officials with criminals,” reads part of the statement.
“The EFF calls for all public-private partnerships with G4S and any other private companies to run South African prisons to be terminated with immediate effect.”
The political party demands that Thabo Bester be returned to prison and be under strict supervision in other to avoid another attempt at escaping.
EFF also requests for proper interrogation of Bester, in other for him to reveal those who aided his escape.
