Somizi’s Harsh Message To The Trolls

Outraged tweeps trolled Somizi Mhlongo when news broke that he is a panelist for an Anele Mdoda-produced show, The Masked Singer South Africa. Mzansi expressed their disapproval over Somizi being all over our television screens, especially where singing is concerned. The Masked Singer sees Somizi Mhlongo ‘investigating’ alongside J Something, Sithelo Shozi, and Skhumba Hlophe on the SABC 3 international franchise.

The team had a press conference this week where Somizi reveals that he anticipated the outrage which ensued on social media but told the naysayers to not tune in.

“The first thing when the news goes out, people are going to say ‘Ah Somizi again judging’ and we are not judging, I think they’ll get a pleasant surprise to understand that this is not a singing competition like any other. We are not judges, we are panelists, we are exactly what the audience is, we are just given the voices. But we are exactly what the audience experience,” he said.

“I’ve been myself from day one, and I would never change anything for anything or for anyone, so if you are tired of me, then switch,” said Somizi.

Som Som said he is authentically him and would never change himself for anything, “What makes me be where I am today is my authenticity. I find it very sad for people to always adjust based on where they are. I am not a chameleon. Somizi has always been this, you’ll see Somizi at a different show but he will still be Somizi.”

During the press conference, Sithelo Shozi also had a few words, especially for those people who are not too pleased with her being cast.

“Other than my three pregnancies, this has been the hardest secret to keep,” she joked. “It’s been so hard to keep the secret, but it’s all been worth it. The experience has been surreal, I still get chills when we go on stage. Someone who is sitting at home can expect something out of this world … I love that I am going to enjoy it with my family, I love that I am going to enjoy it with my children,” she added.

“Everybody made me feel so comfortable, it felt like family. It’s been so incredible to learn each and every day, I’m even learning so much about myself. I’m growing each and every day, which I am so grateful for.”

Somizi said there is a different side to her that people will get to see, “People have seen me on social media but a lot of people don’t actually know me. They know my pictures and that’s just about it, and what I’ve loved about this show is that it’s also given me a platform to share who I really am. I actually do have something between these two ears — I don’t just take pictures every day, I actually do speak.

“This is a really great way for people to actually learn more about me and see who I really am and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. This has been a great way for me to start. This is my first big gig and it’s huge — and I started with the most amazing people.”

  • Wright Ngubeni Set to Return to our Television Screens

Wright Ngubeni Set to Return to our Television Screens

Wright Ngubeni might have had his first experience on television as part of the child presenters for Edushow Kideo. But arguably, his introduction to the world as rebellious teenager Jonathan Motene on Generations during its heyday. Since then, the child star has grown up to diversify his public brand to include film star with his role on Kedibone, and as a presenter and executive producer on a number of shows throughout the years.

However, despite his early fame and continued acclaim on television, Ngubeni does have a tendency to shy away from the spotlight when he is not working on any television projects. As such, it has been a couple of years since he made headlines since the end of his Moja Love show, Love Back.

But now it seems that Wright is ready to grace our television screens as he has been confirmed as the host of the first collaborative show between Showmax and Moja Love. Wright Ngubeni set to return to our television screens

In an official statement by DStv, it announced the first collaborative show between Showmax and Moja Love titled kuRuff. The collaboration was a long time in the making following the two platforms establishing their working relationship when Showmax was able to have Moja Love’s popular flagship shows on its platform back in 2021. Including Uyajola 9/9 and X-Repo back in 2021.

    Wright Ngubeni

As such, kuRuff was the natural extension of their continued efforts to bring the best of both worlds together. The term “ku’ruff” is a colloquial term which is meant to express that, “times/ the current status quo is difficult.” As such, the term is an indication of the premise of the collaborative reality format as the statement explains:

“Showmax and Moja Love have just dropped the trailer for their first collaboration, kuRuff, a 13-part reality show that tackles the “burden” of being a sole breadwinner… kuRuff will be hosted by Wright Ngubeni. In each episode, Ngubeni will hear from both the sole breadwinner and their dependents, before staging an intervention to try to improve the situation.”

Wright has never had the experience of being a breadwinner considering that his older sister Sarah Ngubeni was also in the entertainment industry by the time her brother was also famous. Ngubeni did share how he can relate to the guests featured on the show by stating that:

“Even though I have never experienced black tax from my immediate family, there have been instances with extended family that could be considered black tax, even if I did not know what it was at the time,” says Ngubeni. “In our family, we have always tried to elevate everyone and make sure that everyone is good, so at certain times in our lives, there have been moments when the ‘burden’ fell on just one person. I am only realising this now as an adult.

kuRuff is set to premiere on Showmax on Monday, 17 April 2023 with its first episode. Thereafter, an episode will be uploaded on Tuesdays on the platform. It is unclear when the show will have its Moja Love premiere at the moment.

  • Wiseman Mncube Bids Farewell To The Wife

Wiseman Mncube Bids Farewell To The Wife

After three seasons Showmax’s most popular original series to date, The Wife, has come to an end. The telenovela was inspired by the series of novels by author Dudu Busani-Dube under the Hlomu title. The telenovela has had an interesting ride to its end as the telenovela deviated from the books, which was met with mixed emotions.

However, that did not stop the telenovela from trending week in and out on Twitter. As such, as the telenovela comes to an end, one actress that has gotten her flowers for her stellar performance is none other than lead Mbalenhle Mavimbela who played the title character of Hlumo Dladla.

Not only did she receive her flowers from the viewers. But even the cast of the series gave her flowers. This includes Bhut’ Omdala, Mondli Makhoba who was quoted as saying

“Mbalenhle is an amazing actress, she is very talented, she chooses her moments carefully, and she plays generously… Working with her was refreshing because you know she will come prepared, ready to go where the scene takes her. She is respectful in her work; she understands who she is in a scene. She shines when needed and supports when needed, which is something many actors struggle with.
