Alicia Keys Celebrates Multiple Tony Award Nominations

Alicia Keys is in full celebration mode after learning that her Broadway musical Hell’s Kitchen has been nominated for a whopping 13 TONY Awards. In an Instagram post on Wednesday (May 1), Swizz Beatz captured the moment his wife learned of the nominations – and she was so excited, she popped a big bottle of champagne at 7 in the morning.

“13 TONY Nominations is worthy of popping a bottle at 7 am,” Alicia captioned the post which included the aforementioned video as well as multiple photos of her bottle popping.

Check out the celebratory moment below.

Hell’s Kitchen got its start playing at the Public Theater last year, ending on January 14. It then transferred to the Shubert Theater on Broadway for previews beginning March 28, with an opening night on April 20.

Upon the announcement of her Broadway debut, Alicia Keys said: “Good things take time and for 13 years, I’ve been dreaming, developing, and finding inspiration for a musical based on my experience growing up in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC.

She continued: “Hell’s Kitchen is inspired by my life, but it’s not a biographical story. It’s a story about family relationships and identity: Who are we? Who do we want to be? Who are we becoming?

“The score features new songs that I’m really excited to get out into the world alongside many of my albums releases that you know but you’ve never heard like this – rearranged and reinterpreted.”

The show’s music and lyrics are by the award-winning singer, and the book is penned by Kristoffer Diaz.

In addition to music, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz’s art collection is set to become a massive coffee table book, to be released in conjunction with an exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum.

According to a press release shared with HipHopDX, the pair will be releasing Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys on the Phaidon Books imprint in June of this year.

The book also features an interview with the longtime married couple by Kimberli Gant, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Brooklyn Museum. It serves as an accompaniment to an exhibition featuring Swizz and Alicia’s extensive artwork collection at the museum, which is running from February 10 to July 7.

“Our strategy is collecting from the heart,” the couple said in a statement. “You know, a lot of people call us Black collectors. We’re art collectors, and we happen to be Black. We collect artists from all over the world. The reason why we double down on artists of color is because our community wasn’t collecting these giants.”
