The star singer is making headlines against the backdrop of her birthday. She recently turned a year older, and Mzansi quickly connected the dots about her age. Taking it to Instagram, she posted, “Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to the Gigi Gang!!! Happy birthday to the VVIP section, the dolls and bosses, hustlers and divas, the street runners, the nerds, the social rejects, the 2ks who breathe life into me, the servers of cakes and looks, but most of all, happy birthday to the General section.

However, against her post, fans and fellow celebrities flooded her comment section with some warm birthday wishes. Amapiano sensation Lady Du posted, “Happy birthday, my beautiful sister.”

However, Mzansi was puzzled by Gigi Lamayne’s age. The South African rapper was born on 7 July 1994 in Lenasia, South Africa. The rapper joins a host of celebrities who recently celebrated their birthdays, including seasoned actress Rami Chuene. She turned 49 on 3 July 1975 in Limpopo, South Africa.

However, despite her big wins over the years, Gigi Lamayne hogged headlines a few months ago after she revealed that the music industry does not pay in South Africa and is not a one-size-fits-all industry. Gigi Lamayne expressed these sentiments during her interview on the Trndza Podcast.

She said, “There’s no money in music in South Africa. If you want to make money in music, you must go outside South Africa. You’re never going to make money here, or you’re going to make it for a short amount of time, and you need to strike, and you need to strike hard,” she said.

However, Gigi Lamayne did acknowledge that several stars, such as DJ Maphorisa, Busta 929, and Cassper Nyovest, have made a considerable chunk of their net worth from their colorful musical careers.

“It’s very difficult to make money consistently in music in South Africa. So if you are somebody who wants to get into it and you’re not sure, I always say do it as a hobby, and then if it works out, that’s okay. But if it doesn’t, then you know it’s something else. But there’s absolutely no money in music,” Gigi Lamayne added
