Mortal Kombat 1 Releases New Update for June 2024

The recently released June hotfix for Mortal Kombat 1 has added new graphics options, delivered bug fixes, and made tweaks to some of the game’s fighters, including its latest DLC character, Homelander. Mortal Kombat 1 is the 12th main installment in the long-running franchise created by the now-defunct Midway Games.

Mortal Kombat 1

Released last September, Mortal Kombat 1 is a series reboot developed by NetherRealm Studios that also acts as a direct sequel to its predecessor, 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11. The newer title’s roster has expanded since its launch, with the newest DLC character, Homelander, coming out on June 11.

Just a week after Homelander’s release in Mortal Kombat 1, NetherRealm Studios has dropped a new game update that makes some significant adjustments to The Boy’s antagonist and several other fighters.

Among the changes Mortal Kombat 1’s June hotfix brought was fixing Homelander’s ability to cancel an action and use his Flight move upon being knocked down more than once during a combo that does not consume Super Meter, the energy bar that allows players to use special moves or combos.

The June 18 hotfix also implemented tweaks to other Mortal Kombat 1 characters, namely Cyrax, Khameleon, Janet Cage, and Peacemaker. It delivered general fixes and added a new 60 FPS option for Steam and Epic Games Store players as well.

Mortal Kombat 1 players were unhappy with the Homelander DLC over the visual downgrade that was present in the Nintendo Switch port. While the likeness of actor Antony Starr, who portrayed Homelander in the acclaimed The Boys TV series, was faithfully adapted in Mortal Kombat 1’s PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions, his character’s model featured less polished lighting, textures, and facial expressions on the Switch.

Prior to Homelander’s release, Mortal Kombat 1’s port on the Nintendo handheld was already criticized for its poor graphics, long loading times, and bugs.

Two new Mortal Kombat 1 fighters, Takeda Takahashi and Ferra, are scheduled to come out on July 23. Players who bought the game’s Deluxe Edition or the Kombat Pack expansion will get one week of early access to these new characters.

Ferra was supposed to join Mortal Kombat 1’s roster as a Kameo Fighter in June, but her release was delayed to make sure that she would be able to assist players to the best of her abilities, the development team explained. Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameo Fighters work similarly to Mortal Kombat 11’s assisted fighters, providing players with support characters that can also perform their own Fatalities and Brutalities.
