Yawn

It is understandable to yawn when you are tired or dealing with a midday slump, but doing it when performing some intense Exercises, when all your senses are actively engaged is perplexing.

Here in this article, we have tried to resolve this greatest mystery and understand the reasons behind it.

1. You are drowsy
The most common reason is tiredness. We know that squeezing exercising into the daily routine can be a difficult task. We have to either get up early in the morning or make some time in the evening after working hours to move our bodies.

2. You are anxious and stressed
Many people do not know but yawning is also associated with stress and anxiety. Before the big field event or workout session, we often feel nervous and stressed. But this is a good type of stress and might make you yawn. As per some studies, a yawn can increase blood flow in the brain, which can improve your concentration and help you stay focused.

3. You are doing a HIIT workout
The type of exercise you are performing can also cause this involuntary action. The most common exercise associated with yawning is High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). When performing this high-impact exercise all the major muscles of our body are engaged, which leads to a dramatic spike in the body’s core temperature. This makes us yawn during resting time.

4. You are not interested in your workout
Just like any other activity, you get bored by performing the same exercises every day. This lack of interest in the workout can lead to gaping. Add variety to your workout to keep your brain active and challenge your body.

5. Your body temperature is high
One of the major reasons why people yawn during a workout is due to a spike in the core temperature of the body. Inhaling a large amount of cool air helps lower your core and brain temperature. It is a kind of perspiration, which prevents the loss of water from the body in the form of sweat.

How to stop it
There is nothing wrong with yawning during exercising. It helps to cool your body and increase concentration. Moreover, you cannot control it as it is an involuntary reflex action of the body. Just make sure that you are well-rested and not tired. If you have an injury or feeling weak then avoid exercising for a couple of days.
