Thuli Phongolo’s English leaves Mzansi in stitches

Popular South African actress, DJ, and media personality, Thuli Phongolo has been mocked for a tweet she posted about the elections on Wednesday, 29 May.

The actress and DJ was grilled over a spelling error in the tweet she has since deleted.

South Africans -including celebrities – took to the polls to cast their votes.

In the tweet, Thuli Phongolo posted: “Complementing on taking my mic to the voting station.”

The DJ’s followers were quick to notice that Thuli had used the wrong word – instead of “contemplating,” she had tweeted “complementing.”

Thuli was likely referring to the viral microphone that has taken over social media.

Although Thuli deleted the tweet, a screenshot of it had tweeps amused.

Here are some of the reactions:

@Domineer_: “The effects of the 30% pass mark.”

@Thapz__: “This gang of BBLs is good for nothing.”

@Sbo19DarkBeauty: “Do they remove your brain cells during surgery in Turkey?”

Despite the cringe moment, Thuli Phongolo – who is dating DJ Maphorisa – laughed at the criticism, which continued on TikTok.

She tweeted: “There’s no comment section as hilarious as TikTok! I mean, who are these people?

Thuli Phongolo isn’t the only female DJ who took an “L” for her laughable social media post about the elections.

Cyan Boujee – who has undergone her third BBL in Turkey – had the public howling at her faux pas.

her Instagram Stories this week, the hitmaker tweeted an advert from Krispy Kreme that was giving away a free donut to anyone who had cast their vote on election day.

Cyan – who was on a liquid diet – posted: “This was the only reason I was going to vote. But one more weeks until I can eat LOL.”.

She hilariously added: “Maybe next year”.

On the X platform, tweeps dragged the 22-year-old for her grammar and lack of knowledge that general elections and voting occur every five years.

According to TshisaLive, Cyan has bragged about getting a gastric sleeve weight loss surgery.

She said: “My goal is 60kg. I know it’s crazy, or at least 65kg, but that is my goal. I don’t want to be around 80kg; I don’t want to be around 90kg. I have tried to lose weight by doing every kind of thing. It didn’t work. I keep gaining.”
