Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke failed to appear in court today for charges related to crimes committed in 2022. The singer is accused of stabbing two individuals in separate incidents in Lebowakgomo.
Chauke was arrested in April last year and spent several months in jail before being released on bail in July. The case, now in its plea and trial stages, involves charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted murder.
Mashudu Malabi-Dzangi from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) stated that the matter was postponed to allow the defense, who represented Chauke in his absence, to provide the court with his medical records. Malabi-Dzangi explained, “Chauke was unable to make it to court due to injuries sustained in an accident last month.
The accused appeared in absentia at the Lebowakgomo regional court for the pre-trial. Due to his ill health, the court has rescheduled the matter to July 19, 2024, to enable Chauke to present medical certificates.
