Rita Ora appears to still be on a first-time high while discussing her relationship with Taika Waititi. More than a week after the singer confirmed that she and the Thor: Ragnarok director had tied the knot—which E! News confirmed in August 2022—she spoke about why she waited to talk about it publicly.
“I got married!” Rita shared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Feb. 7. “I can’t believe I can say it’s so interesting to me because I loved the whole experience but I kept it super private for a bit. So it’s nice to share it and just be a little more open to it.
And as the “For You” singer explained to host Drew Barrymore, her and Taika’s friendship is what laid the framework to their great relationship.
“We’re friends and we met long before we decided to ruin everything,” Rita noted. “We were friends for six years
The pair sparked romance rumors in the spring of 2021 and made their red carpet debut as a couple that summer. And as for their dynamic post-nuptials? Rita added, “We both kind of do our own thing and I’m very happy.”
Her new comments on saying “I do” last year come about a week after Rita flashed her wedding ring on The Tonight Show.
“I actually have never shown anyone my ring,” she told host Jimmy Fallon on Feb. 1. “You know, it’s my first time showing my ring. So because I love you and I feel like you’re part of our relationship weirdly ‘cause we watch you every night—that creepy? I just felt like I’ll show you it. Look, here it is.”
While showing off her gorgeous ring, which includes an emerald center stone surrounded by a diamond halo and diamonds on the side, Rita admitted Taika had a little help while choosing the sparkler.
“I just think, like, when you know what you want—and I felt like I really knew that I wanted to be with this person—I just wanted it to feel really right,” she explained. “And so I may have taken him to the shop and I may have pointed out exactly what ring I wanted.
