Suspended Kaizer Chiefs legend and captain Itumeleng Khune took to social media to wish South Africans a prosperous new year. Taking to Instagram, the star penned a hopeful note for 2024, and Mzansi has since flooded his comments section with comments of hope and determination.
Khune shared several photos with his wife, Sphelele Makhunga, while at the beach and captioned them, “Happy New Year! May the coming year bring you joy and success! Wishing you a prosperous New Year filled with happiness and new opportunities #2024 No doubt 2023 wasn’t good for Itumeleng Khune, who saw himself making headlines for the wrong reasons as the year ended. Khune was embroiled in a controversial misconduct incident that suspended him from club activities.
It was reported that he showed up for training while drunk. Two players reported him to the management, leading to his suspension after a club disciplinary meeting.
Brandon Peterson incident – Apart from that, he was also dragged online for revealing fellow goalkeeper Brandon Peterson’s mental health struggles to the public. Reports revealed that Peterson’s team complained to the club about his sentiments.
Contract woes – Khune reportedly contradicted the club’s statement on his rumoured retirement plans with the club. However, apart from that, during Kaizer Motaung’s ‘Hall of Fame’ celebrations, he reportedly refused to give a speech despite being the club’s captain and the most capped Amakhosi.
However, against all these allegations and rumours that have often thrust him into the top trends, Khune has managed to bluetick them and focus on his career.
