How to get rid of ants in your home

Ants are devilishly clever creatures, when they smell an opportunity, they won’t let it go and you can bet they’ll quickly start inviting friends to your apartment for a big feast.

It’s worth following a few rules so as not to unknowingly encourage them. If you notice ants marching towards you in whole colonies, don’t hesitate and act quickly before they settle in for good. Some old grandma tricks are very effective in preventing such situations.

A brilliant idea for ants in the house – how to scare them away?
Although there are many ant control products available on the market, it is not always necessary to use harsh chemicals. Especially if we have small children or pets at home. There is a super simple trick to repel ants with a product that you probably already have in your kitchen.

It turns out that all you need is plain white vinegar, which is a great deterrent for these insects and is a completely natural and safe remedy. As an expert explains in an interview with express.co.uk: “Ants hate the smell of vinegar, so they avoid it if possible“. The application of this method is as simple as the idea itself.

Just dilute vinegar with water and use it to wipe surfaces where ants enter the interior, such as floors, thresholds and window areas. Vinegar will also work on the scent marks left by insects, which are an invitation for more uninvited guests and act as a natural GPS for ants. This trick will also work in the fight against other insects that would like to visit our apartment.

Prepare a spray bottle and fill it with a 1:1 ratio of water to vinegar, i.e. the same amount of water as vinegar. Then spray the critical areas and wipe with a paper towel or cloth.

Because it is a natural method and does not harm you or the environment, you can even use it in places where food is stored, such as kitchen cabinets or countertops.

Remember to test it in an inconspicuous place to make sure that the vinegar will not discolour, for example, furniture veneers or less durable fittings.

Be sure to keep your home clean regularly, because crumbs and leftovers are an invitation for insects and other pests to dine in your home. They are primarily attracted by smells.

Unfortunately, they start to gather quite quickly and take advantage of the buffet that we have unknowingly prepared for them. If ants do not find a source of food in your home, they will not want to stay there.

In addition to human food, they can be attracted by pet food – store it in airtight containers.
