SA producer and DJ AirBurn Sounds drops his long-awaited EP titled Rock Star. He has been in the background, working, and crafting as a producer and Sound engineer for more than a decade. The year 2023 has been his time to shine as he stepped into the limelight as a DJ and producer.

On Friday 8 December, AirBurn Sounds, real name Thabo Mahundla is set to release his long-awaited five-track EP titled Rock Star.

The title Rock Star represents success, fame, and musical sensation. For AirBurn Sounds it is a manifestation of things to come. “It’s a manifestation of being highly accomplished,” AirBurn Sounds says. “A rock star is someone who is success-orientated, works hard and is enthusiastic and even charismatic”

The Limpopo-born and Joburg (Alexandr and Thembisa) raised star has produced for artists such as Master KG, Nomcebo Zikode, DJ Tira, Makhadzi, Temwah, Zanda Zakuza, Mr Brown, Boity, Rethabile Khumalo, Nokwazi and many more. This has earned him a place on the international stage. His Spotify numbers (112 K streams, 58 K Listeners, 715 Followers, in 113 Countries) for the year 2023 earned him appreciation in his hometown – South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, the UK and Zimbabwe.

Formerly signed to Open Mic Productions, AirBurn Sounds left in 2023 and released music through his own company AirBurn Sounds, and new label Makhathes Productions. His versatility and non-conformist nature have seen him work with artists from various genres including Gqom, Kwaito, Jazz, Maskandi, traditional Tsonga music, dance, Hip-Hop, and dance.

Born in Limpopo, AirBurn Sounds started providing at 15 years old and made a name for himself after winning the Red Squad DJ Competition in 2013. He produced songs that topped charts across radio stations. He has travelled Europe and the African continent DJing and working as an engineer. His single titled Thando Uzongibulala featuring Makhadzi saw him make waves. He has shared stages with artists DJ Mpahorisa, Burna Boy, Sjava, Buffalo Soulja and many more. “I have been able to work with different artists because I am not limited to genre. I am an artist, a creative and genre is just a box,” he says.
