  • Zahara’s reality series to still air

Zahara’s reality series to still air

Despite her untimely passing in December 2023, the second season of platinum-selling musician Zahara’s reality TV series, titled Zahara – As I Rise, will still air. This is according to a source who told Zimoja that the family is still in talks with the SABC about the show.

“She wanted to shoot the new season and show the lobola celebration and everything. But she became ill. She collapsed on the day of the lobola and things took a turn. But the SABC has approached the family and they have agreed to continue with the show,” said the source, who is a family member.n It is reported that the Mkutukana family is seeking guidance from Zahara’s best friend, musician Vusi Nova.

    Zahara

“The family doesn’t know much about show business. but they are getting guidance from people like Vusi Nova who was one of her best friends.” The multi-award-winning singer’s mother, Nokhaya Mkutukana, confirmed the talks.

    Zahara

“God is good. We will heal. We don’t want our daughter’s story to go untold. She was our pillar of strength. We are still in talks with the SABC. We are from the rural area thina, we don’t know these things, but people will help guide us so we can go about it the right way. Since Zahara’s hospitalisation in November last year, there were various reports citing family drama which also included her fiancée, Mpho Xaba.

Some of the reports included claims that Loliwe hitmaker’s sisters, Lumka and Bandezwa, had been going on shopping sprees while the singer fought for her life at a private hospital in Johannesburg. There were also reports about the family allegedly not recognizing Mpho as Zahara’s husband even after he was said to have paid some of the lobolo.

    Zahara

According to the source, Zahara’s family is looking to clear the air on such reports and set the record straight. It has not been easy. There has been a lot of speculation and conflicts which will be cleared.

However, it is not clear if Mpho will be given an opportunity to tell his side if the story. He has been painted out to be a bad guy. If the family could allow him to be part of the show because he is an integral part of her last days, it would be fair to give him a chance to speak about what they had.

  • Here’s why Annie Mthembu won’t return for season 4 of The Real Housewives of Durban

Here’s why Annie Mthembu won’t return for season 4 of The Real Housewives of Durban

The Real Housewives of Durban is making a comeback to the small screens this February. Returning for season four are Nonku Williams, Sorisha Naidoo, Jojo Robinson Maria Valaskatzis and Slindile Wendy Ndlovu. Joining the new cast are Ameigh Sibahle Thompson, Nqobile ‘Angel’ Ndlela, and Zamaswazi Ngcobo. But Annie Ludick-Mthembu, a businesswoman, mom and wife of Durban club owner Kgolo ‘Da Guru’ Mthembu has chosen to not be part of the new season.

Annie explains that although shooting the show came with lessons and fun times, she needed to exclude herself for her own mental wellness. “I had to sit this season out because I needed a mental health break,” she says. “Some time for reflection and also to focus on my businesses which have been growing in the background and this time around, they needed me to be more present to assist with their growth.

    Annie

Annie previously opened up to ZiMoja about constantly being bullied, mocked and teased on social media for her unique fashion sense, her creative hairstyles and her misbehaving eye caused by Bell’s Palsy. “A lot of people suffer from Bell’s Palsy and there is no medication that can right your face nor any cure; some people never recover. It’s all about having to rebuild the muscles in your face and that can take years of physio,” she says. “I definitely am not immune to what people say about me online.

    Annie

It used to trigger me quite badly, this is why I went out and sought therapy to assist me with coming to terms with my past hurt and to also have a better perspective on the backlash I get on social media.” Annie now adds that being on the show took away her shyness. “It took me from being this shy, introverted girl into being a woman who knows herself and what she stands for.” She says this growth would not have been possible without the trials and tribulations she experienced with some of the ladies on the show who challenged her.

  • Khuzani Mpungose donates cash to man who was beaten over Song of the Year

Khuzani Mpungose donates cash to man who was beaten over Song of the Year

He was badly assaulted and his shack torched allegedly by his neighbour after an argument over Song of the Year competition on SABC’ s Ukhozi FM. On Wednesday, the tears of Siyabonga Gumede from Dukuduku outside Mtubatuba, in the far north of KwaZulu Natal, were wiped when award-winning maskandi artist Khuzani Mpungose donated R30 000 in cash to help the man to rebuild his home.

It is alleged that the neighbour, who is a staunch supporter of maskandi artist ,Mthandeni “Igcokama Elisha” Manqele, moered Gumede after he said the Khuzani was “inkunzi” (a beast). It is said that Gumede was over the moon after Khuzani’s song titled Umjolo Lowo became the crossover song on Ukhozi FM on December 31. This angered the neighbour whose favourite artist came second with his song titled Paris, featuring Lwah Ndlunkulu. Mthandeni is big rival of award Khuzani and their beef has been ongoing since 2014.

    Khuzani Mpungose

Gumede said he was excited when Khuzani won Song of the Year and decided to go celebrate with his neighbour. “When I went to my neighbour to share my excitement, he became angry and I wasn’t even aware that he wanted Mthandeni to win the crossover song. I went there to celebrate with him not knowing that I was inviting bad thigs into my life. He attacked me like a mad man and nearly killed me, I had to run for my life,” he said.

    Khuzani Mpungose

Khuzani visited Gumede at his home accompanied by award winning gospel artist Jumbo, where he donated R20 000 and his colleague and friend in the music industry donated R10 000. “I wasn’t expecting this from Khuzani and Jumbo. I lost my job after the incident. I recently got hired and they had to let me go because my arm and leg got injured when my neighbour tried to hack me with a bush knife. I don’t have words to thank them.

This money will help me renew my driver’s license and build my shack that was burnt down by my neighbour,” he said. Speaking to the locals, Khuzani pleaded with maskandi music lovers to stop the violence. “I have to ask you to refrain from violence because the ongoing beef between me and Mthandeni is just a game. This is about a game to show who is more powerful than the other when it comes to music. We are not fighting. I hereby ask you to stop engaging in violence using our names,” he said. Khuzani further asked that the authorities look into the Gumede matter. He opened the case of assault with KwaMsane SAPS but no one has been arrested as the neighbour ran away.
