The entertainment industry has once again been left disappointed.

This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Monday 28 December that the country was going back to lockdown level 3.

Among the many regulations put in place was the banning of indoor and outdoor gatherings. The SunTeam spoke to celebrities and event organisers to find out how the new regulations were affecting them.

Event organiser King Vee said he had lost R15 000 due to the cancellation of an event meant to happen on Thursday 31 December.

“I don’t understand why gatherings are blamed. Go to taxi ranks and see how many people are there with no one wearing a mask,” he said.

“These people travel from one place to another and taxis are at full capacity.

“I’m assuming gatherings are easier to attack because we don’t have unions or representatives to speak for us.

“We have started refunding people who bought the early bird tickets. We have refunded about 80% of people now.”

Shesha Geza hitmaker, Njelic said he was booked for two gigs on Thursday and Friday which had to be cancelled. He also had to cancel an event he organised for Tuesday 29 December.

“We understand the president’s decision. What’s going on is bad, seeing people getting sick and dying. We see that the government is trying its best to prevent further spread,” he said.

“What hurts the most is that people who attend events forget to keep safe.

“Their families then become affected because of their carelessness. This was a good decision although artists and event organisers are going to be affected really badly.”

Umlilo singer Rethabile said the news left her feeling hurt.

“My team and I had organised our own event. Fortunately, we had not sold any tickets or spent money yet. We decided to rather be safe than sorry.

“However, I’m sad because we have families to feed and we can’t do this if no income is coming in,” she said.
