Kwaito star and runner pastor Kabelo Mabalane is flying Mzansi’s flag high.
Ready to compete in the Cape Town Marathon, one of the world’s biggest running events, he wrote: “ICYMI @ctmarathon gets to be the seventh world major marathon. This is alongside London, Tokyo, Berlin, Chicago, Boston and New York. This is huge. Great news for SA, running, tourism, bragging rights and absolutely outstanding for Cape Town.”
However, he admitted that there was still a lot of work to be done to prepare.
“There is still a bit of graft to be done for the race to meet a very strict Abbott World Major Marathon standard. Far from insurmountable though. Most noticeably is the compulsory inclusion of the wheelchair race and ensuring it increases its number of finishers. This achievement is going to need all of us! Let’s get stuck in.”
He was looking forward to the competition.
“I’m looking forward to taking part in my first @ctmarathon race this year, and training is underway.”
His friends and colleagues took turns and encouraged him to go for it.
Musician J’Something offered emotional support and said: “I think I’m in bro.”
Andiswa commented: “You’re such an inspiration.”
Paul said: “It is a great marathon and you’ll smash it”.
The member of kwaito group TKZee is known for his love of sport, particularly running.
Last year Kabelo ran a 600km marathon from Joburg to Durban along with his colleague Peteni Khuzwayo. Before that, he ran the Comrades three times.
