Mzansi and the world at large are mourning after the untimely death of Dr Sindi van Zyl. The seasoned radio presenter and accreditated medical Doctor lost her battle with Covid 19. In the wake of her untimely death, the medical practitioner was well known for her community engagements programmes and medical campaigns in Mzansi.

Well, little was known about her private life as she kept it under wraps. However, it has been established that her family will not personal goodbye messages she sent her loved ones. The family said this on Sunday in a statement shared via her official Twitter account.

“The Duchess of Healing, Dr Sindi Van Zyl, is now truly at rest. She has been a beacon of love and light, a beautiful soul who loved and gave endlessly with grace and kindness.Sindisiwe-van-Zyl

“Sindi requested that we don’t post any personal goodbye messages she sent to those close to her. The one thing she prided herself in was that people from anywhere and everywhere were able to share their deepest thoughts with her,” said the Van Zyl family.

Here are some facts you didn’t know about the late Sindisiwe van Zyl.

Sindisiwe van Zyl was born on the 3rd of April 1976 and died on the 10th of April 2021. A few years down the line she later attained a South African nationality. However, she was a South African physician, Radio DJ, health activist and researcher. She was well known for championing medical-related issues on social media platforms.

She attended the University of Pretoria where she obtained a BSc in human physiology and psychology, and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree. Dr Sindisiwe Van Zyl interned at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. In 2004, she married Marinus van Zyl.

He was the mayor of Harare, the capital city of Zimbabwe, elected in 2008. As chairman of 12 companies and director of two, he is also well known in Zimbabwean cricket, golf and tennis. He is a member of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, based in Switzerland.

She once shared a series of pictures posing with Muchadeyi Masunda on her Instagram showing him praises for being a good father.

Family and Awards

However, she was an accredited columnist for Health24 and Bona magazine. She once made all sorts of headlines when she bagged a gig on 7de Laan. Dr Sindi was also aShe Radio DJ Kaya FM. She died at the age of 45 and was a mother of two.

During her lifetime she bagged several awards which included the prestigious Mail & Guardian (2012) 200 Young South Africans and Glamour Women of the Year (2018). In 2018 she was awarded for excellence and activism in health and medicine.
