The organising team of the 14th Crown Gospel Music Awards has extended the deadline for nomination entries.
This is because entries were coming in slowly since gospel artists were not sure whether the awards are happening this year because of Covid-19 and lockdown restrictions.
Awards spokeswoman Bongi Potelwa said updates for the awards were done on Twitter, which restricted some of the artists.
“Not everyone has Twitter accounts, so some of the artists couldn’t read updates. Now that they can contact the office for updates and nomination forms, more entries are pouring in. The deadline for the entries has been extended from 15 September to 30 September, which is the closing date,” said Bongi.
These prestigious awards, organised by the World Gospel Powerhouse, has been held at Durban ICC over the last decade.
However, Bongi told Daily Sun they were still discussing the venue for this year before they announce the date on which the winners will be crowned.
Bongi said the awards will be pre-recorded in studio just like last year.
“The 14th Crown Gospel Awards will once again be confined to a studio pre-recording with limited guests on-site to observe Covid-19 safety protocols, and ensure the safety of the artists and gospel fans,” she said.
This year’s theme is #ChristOurHopeOfGlory which, according the organisers, is a fitting tribute after all Mzansi has gone through.
In 2019, Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng was honoured with the Salt Award because of his influential role in society and the category is returning this year.
Founder of World Gospel Powerhouse and the Awards CEO, Zanele LaMbokazi-Nkambule, said gospel artists must use the deadline extension opportunity to submit their entries.
“We hope the gospel music fraternity will yield the call and submit their soulful sounds of praise to stand a chance to be crowned the winner at the 14th annual Gospel Music Awards,” said LaMbokazi-Nkambule.
