The soccer tournament, which is set to take place later this year, will see the eight teams made of celebrities competing against each other for bragging rights.
The genres and their captains are: kwaito (Captain Arthur Mofokate), gospel (Captain Dumi Mkokstad), amapiano (Captain Maphorisa), iscathamiya (Captain Shefangembazo) Afrikaans (Captain Steve Hofmeyer), gqom (Captain DJ Tira) maskandi (Captain Khuzani) and hip hop (Captain Big Zulu).
We are therefore appealing to artists under these genres to consult with their captains or principals so we can properly plan. We have also included female artists to be part of this tournament. Each genre should be represented by at least two female artists,” said Khuzani.
“We have also taken a decision that each genre can have a maximum of two football legends to assist them in the field.”
He said this was only the start but the intention was to include all genres. The dates for tournaments have not been set, but preparations are underway.
After each game there would be a live concert, running throughout the night.
“Our plan is to grow this tournament and have it on annual basis and possibly have our fans in the stadium. Our intention is to make history and promote the spirit of ubuntu.”
Dr Sipho Sithole, who facilitated the announcement, said the idea would ensure social cohesion and encourage kids to go into sport.
